The Big Return
11/07/2002 - She's back! Shania's opening performance at the CMA Awards last night marked her big return to the stage in North America and Nashville after a two-year hiatus. She opened the awards with a performance of "I'm Gonna Getcha Good!" while dressed in an outfit similar to that of the one she wore in the video.
After the performance she told reporters how she felt about her return: "It didn't have the sort of scary impact that I thought it would because I actually started promotion in Europe a couple of months ago, so I've been able to do quite a bit of TV before coming here. But being back here is special. It was really, really great."
Check out CMAAwards.com for a wrap-up of all the nights events.

She's Back!
09/28/2002 - October 4th looks like it will be a big day for Shania fans and should mark the return of Shania with a new single and video!
At 1:00 AM EST (6:00 AM GMT) 3C Continuous Cool Country Digital Radio will broadcast Shania's new single, "I'm Gonna Getcha Good!" for the first time and fans will be able to listen live on the Internet! 3C Has had the opportunity to preview the new single and had this to say about it:
If you’re a Shania fan, you’re no doubt expecting this single to be good. Well, forget it... it’s better than good, it’s magnificent! Although extremely catchy, the track is also very complex in its construction. There are a number of different sections, so the song never gets boring or repetitive.
Elements in the arrangement include a slightly Middle Eastern-sounding string flourish (reminded me of Holly Valance’s "Kiss Kiss"), and another section with harmony backing vocals that are vaguely reminiscent (to me, anyway) of Queen’s "Bohemian Rhapsody".
There are a few seconds in "I’m Gonna Getcha Good" that will remind you of the "Come On Over" album, but for the most part it sounds fresh and different. Needless to say, it is punchy and extremely commercial. If the rest of the "Up" album is anything like this good, I think there is a good chance sales could match or exceed those of "Come On Over".
As soon as Mercury gives us the green light, we’ll be playing "I’m Gonna Getcha Good" on 3C, and we’ll also have advance previews of other "Up" album tracks in the days before the album’s release. You wouldn’t expect any less from World’s Best Country, 3C! |
You'll be able to listen to the new single and judge for yourself on October 4th at 1:00 AM EST by clicking here!
New Video Also to Premiere - Later that day the video for Shania's new single, "I'm Gonna Getcha Good" will premiere on CMT's Most Wanted Live! The first video from Shania's new album, "UP!" will premiere on MWL at 7:00 PM EST!

7th Heaven For Shania
09/03/2002 - Instead of the usual video countdown which had become a standard on Labor Day weekend the past few years, this year CMT ditched the video countdown to premiere one of it's most ancitipated specials to date, the 40 Greatest Women of Country Music. The 3-hour special was a countdown of the top 40 female artists in country music's history and Shania Twain made the list at #7! Those who contributed to the list were other artists, music historians, music journalists and music industry professionals.
While Shania's #7 spot may have been impressive, most Shania fans were more impressed by the sight of Shania speaking on behalf of other artists on the list. Shania who was recently interviewed for the special, looked great and has fans abuzz.

Details Circulating In Radio
08/25/2002 - More news and speculation on Shania's new album come thanks to Neil Haislop at CountryStars.com:
Here's the latest information circulating through some top programmers regarding Shania Twain's new single and album.
STUFF KNOWN already, Shania's first single from the fourth album (containing 19 songs, due out Nov. 12.) will be available on DGS one minute after midnight on September 23.
NEW INFO, one report says the title of the song is "I'm Gonna Getcha Good," and that Twain may hold a press conference in Paris where she'll sing and premiere the video.
THE ALBUM release may actually involve the release of three albums of identical songs but each set mixed differently. The GOAL may be to sell more albums worldwide than Michael Jackson's Thriller.
SPECULATION - Shania Twain has already used the remix idea to boost the sales of a previously released album. When she released the re-mixed version of Come On Over for international sales, because the title of the album remained the same, and the same songs remained in the same sequence the sales of the remix album counted were added in to the overall sales of Come On Over. So, by simultaneously releasing country, pop and international versions of the same album, Twain could generate huge sales more quickly.
Confirmation of this information has yet to come from the Shania camp and release dates in Shania's world are subject to change.

Pre-Order The New Album!
08/18/2002 - Amazon.com is now taking orders for Shania's new album "UP!" The 2-disc album which will be Shania's first since 1997 is tentatively scheduled to be released on November 12, but you can reserve your copy now!

"UP!" & Coming
08/13/2002 - It's official, Shania Twain's 4th album, entitled "Up!" is scheduled to be released on November 12th, 2002! The album, produced by Mutt Lange, includes 19 new songs, all co-written by Shania and Mutt. The new album's release will come shortly after the 5 year anniversary of the release of "Come On Over," which sold more than 34 million copies worldwide.

New Album Rumors
07/15/2002 - Depending on which source you chose to listen to (and there are many), the new album looks like it will really hit stores this Fall! The album which some say will be titled "Up" has been rumored to be released as early as October or as late as December.

New Album Update
03/02/2002 - After months of speculation and a growing sense of frustration, the top man at Mercury (Luke Lewis), has shed a little light on Shania's upcoming album!
From CountryStars.com:
Mercury Nashville's top executive, Luke Lewis, tells us he's heard a good portion of what they've recorded so far for the new album and says what he's heard so far is stronger than what she's done before. Scary thought. Twain and Lange are still working on the album and should have enough material to release on one disc, what would normally be a double disc CD release. "I told Mutt, 'Why don't you fill up all 74 minutes of the CD for added value?'" That could amount to 20 some tracks on Twain's fourth CD. RELEASE NOT SET - Lewis says the target date to release the album is sometime in September but emphasizes that no date is at all certain at this point. "Shania and Mutt won't deliver the album until they're sure they have topped themselves, so it could be Fall or Christmas or some other date."

Britney Sings Shania
01/30/2002 - In Britney Spears' upcoming movie debut "Crossroads," the 20-year old singer has a scene in which she sings along to Shania's hit, "Man! I Feel Like A Woman!" while driving on a road trip with friends. One can assume this is a little tribute to Shania who lended her songwriting talent to Britney's "Opps! I Did It Again" album by writing "Don't Let Me Be The Last To Know" with husband Mutt. Crossroads hits theaters February 15.

The Driven Details
01/09/2002 - Less than 24 hours after our original story, more details about the new VH1 show "Driven," have arrived!
From Yahoo News: The new VH1 series "Driven" brings the music world's biggest pop icons' unknown pasts to life with footage that the public has never seen, plus interviews with those special people who played integral roles in their development as artists and individuals, providing a rare glimpse at what they were really like.
There's no such thing as overnight success -- over time, like a jigsaw puzzle, pieces are added, small breakthroughs are made, and eventually the picture of a pop star begins to take shape. "Driven" traces that process from childhood to the first glimmer of stardom, through the eyes of those who knew the artist best and helped play pivotal roles in their development -- teachers, family members, friends, and creative partners. With each episode of "Driven" dedicated to a single artist, the show looks at the stars' blueprints for success and what propelled them to achieve it despite the obstacles that lay in their paths.
