Shania Wins Big at BMI Awards
10/04/2000 - At the BMI Country Awards last night Shania who was in attendence picked up awards for her songs "Come On Over," "Man! I Feel Like A Woman!" and "That Don't Impress Me Much." In a tie Shania and the Dixie Chicks split the award for Songwriter/Artist of the Year. The BMI Awards recognize BMI registered singers and songwriters. Shania now owns 22 BMI Pop and Country awards. Congrats Shania!
In other songwriting awards news, Shania's husband Mutt Lange who is a registered songwriter with ASCAP picked up 4 awards at an awards ceremony for ASCAP songwriters! The awards were in recognition of the "Most Played Songs of the Year" in which "Come On Over," "Man! I Feel Like A Woman," "That Don't Impress Me Much" and "You've Got A Way" won. The reason Shania didn't receive any recognition in the ASCAP Awards is because she is a BMI registered songwriter.

Shania Graces the CMA's
10/04/2000 - For Shania fans the year 2000 has been very slow, eargerly awaiting to catch that first glimpse of Shania this year. After a 9 month absence from the public eye Shania made her return earlier tonight at the 2000 CMA Awards, and what a return it was. Although she was only there to present the Entertainer of the Year award, Shania's appearance was a welcome sight for Shania fans. Shania as the last presenter dressed in a stunning full length red dress awarded the Entertainer of the Year award to the Dixie Chicks who earned their first Entertainer of the Year awards.
The CMA embrace: After the sad display by the Canadian CMA crowd who booed every time Shania's name was mentioned at the CCMA Awards last month it was nice to see that Shania didn't receive that same sour response by the US crowd. She was greeted with a warm response and not a single boo-bird could be heard. Another intresting observation which could be made while watching the awards was the fact that Shania was seated beside Kenny Rogers who we know expressed intrest in photographing Shania for a photo book he is working on. Maybe Shania took him up on his offer and let Kenny take some shots while she's in the US or maybe it was just a coincidence.
The leading award winners at the CMA Awards were the Dixie Chicks who won 4 awards, Tim McGraw who won for Male Vocalist of the Year, his wife Faith Hill who won for Female Vocalist of the Year and Lee Ann Womack's "I Hope You Dance" song which won as Song of the Year and Single of the Year.

What's Up Shania?
10/06/2000 - During the CMT red carpet interviews before the CMA Awards on Wednesday Shania was asked what she had been up to lately and what she'll be doing in the next few months. She said that she's been enjoying time at home, with her horses and with her husband Mutt during the past 6 months she'll be going to Canada to spend the Canadian Thanksgiving with Mutt and her family.
Shania mentioned her husband Mutt again saying that he is in Switzerland, in the studio working with the new album while she was in Nashville at the awards. Talking about the album Shania made it clear that they wanted to take it slow because Shania wanted to enjoy time with her husband and just live a normal life and not get too caught up in the new album.

Rogers Gets His Wish
10/06/2000 - Just as we speculated a couple of nights ago, Kenny Rogers who was seated next to Shania during the CMA Awards got his wish, which was to photograph Shania. Kenny who mentioned earlier that he wanted to photograph Shania for a photography book he is working on called This Is My Country got his wish the day of the CMA Awards. Along with Shania he also took photographs of Vince Gill, Lee Ann Womack and Faith Hill among others. No word yet when the book will be available but we'll keep you posted!

Shania Speaks About New Album
10/06/2000 - Last Wednesday night during the post-CMA interviews a little insight into Shania's next album was gained as Shania spoke about it's progress. Shania who stated she is currently in the songwriting stage of the new album had this to say about the direction the new album will take: "At this stage, we are really just being very creative. We're not giving the music any direction right now. We're just creating music. I think it's very important for people to understand that. I think any songwriters aren't thinking, 'This song is going...' I just think it's really premature to make that decision.
"Right now, we're still writing. And when you're writing, you're thinking concepts, you're thinking of concepts, you're thinking of lyrics. You're not thinking about formats, style, really, and sound so much. So it's too early to tell what direction it's going to take."

Shania Denies Rumors
10/08/2000 - A possible end to a rumor that has been going around the internet and airwaves on country radio came last Wednesday night at the CMA backstage interviews. When asked if she was building a new home in Wisconsin Shania reportedly flat out denied that report. The rumor started on the internet about a month ago and was even confirmed by several radio stations so we'll just have to see if there was anything to it or not.
The new rumors out there say that Shania has bought a cottage in the Huntsville Ontario area of her native Canada. The rumors should be taken for just what they are, rumors. If you live in that area of Canada don't go out looking for Shania just yet!

Garth Playing Catchup
10/08/2000 - In a recent article and interview in Billboard magazine Garth Brooks admitted he was dissapointed when Shania's "Come On Over" album overtook his 1990 album "No Fences" as the best selling album in country music at that time.
"With no offense at all to Shania Twain, I would like "No Fences" to be the largest-selling country album of all time. I was proud of her and congratulated her on her accomplishment, and the way it's selling, it's going to keep getting bigger and bigger. But I liked it when "No Fences" was the largest-selling country album."
As we've seen before with Garth trying to make a Major League Baseball roster, he has that competitive fire. So what's next for Garth? He plans to re-release "No Fences" with an extra track (Until You Come Back To Me Again), which will surely make sales rise but will it reach the status at which "Come On Over" is at? Unlikely but it's worth a shot by Garth.

Talk of the Tabloids
10/14/2000 - Shania's stunning appearance at the CMA Awards on the 4th still have people talking and the tabloids (who have been known to do a little talking about Shania, and usually not good) are full of compliments for Shania and her CMA attire. National Enquirer: "Shania Rules! Shania Twain is a shoe-in for the most glamorous songbird in Nashville! Not to mention the most popular." The Globe says "You gotta hand it to Shania. The sexy songstress is a traffic-stopper in her skintight mermaid stunner. Grrrrr!" Other publications have a little Shania action in them as well this week with Shania pictured in US Weekly and People magazine. (Thanks to FV of Shania Twain City for the news.)

Shania Misses the Fans
10/14/2000 - In a little Shania news from Hazel over at CountryCool.com we hear that Shania has come to miss her fans during the break she has been taking this year. She said this past six months is the first time in her life since she was 10 years old that she didn't sing, but added, she needed the time off from the long tour. Shania said it was fun getting to know her husband again.
Shania says she's very much at home in Switzerland saying that Europe reminds her of Canada. "Very clean, very natural. We get our milk from the farmer next door." Shania who is currently in Switzerland working with her husband and producer Mutt Lange on the next album will likely make her return to music in grand Shania fashion and give us fans what we've been waiting for!

Wave to the World
10/17/2000 - As the 2000 Paralympics Games are scheduled to kick off tomorrow in Sydney Australia, Shania has lended her talent to help raise money for the games. Two fundraising CD's were released yesterday and Shania's song "God Bless The Child" is a part of the country CD which includes other country stars Vince Gill, Reba McEntire, Mark Wills and more. In addition to the country CD a pop fundraising CD has also been released including Elton John, Sting and Smash Mouth among others.
The 2000 Paralympics will run October 18-29.
Proceeds from the sale of the CD's will to go support the Paralypic Games and their athletes. You can purchase either CD at WaveToTheWorld.com for $13.40 US, $20.00 Canadian and $24.94 Australian Dollars.

Mercury Celebrates 50
10/19/2000 - After Shania made her return to the public spotlight at the CMA Awards earlier in the month Mercury Nashville took the oportunity to thank congratulate Shania on her success. At a post-CMA dinner at Nashville's Atlantis restaurant some top Mercury Nashville execs presented Shania 3 plaques to commemorate 3 record sales acomplishments.
US Sales of over 17 million for Shania’s Come On Over album.
Worldwide sales of over 30 million for Come On Over.
Combined worldwide sales of over 50 million for Shania Twain, The Woman In Me, and Come On Over
Some of Shania's band from the world tour also joined Shania at the post-CMA dinner (pictured below).

STC: Estimates Too High
10/21/2000 - Reports out of Timmins indicate that the original construction estimate of $3.1 million to build the Interpretive Centre was off by $1.6 million. That report sent shockwaves through City Hall in Timmins leaving them to wonder what can be done to reduce the cost to the original estimate
City Clerk Jack Watson said "as in all projects the city started with what it would like to have and really couldn't determine the cost of various items until the contractors submit their bids."
"In this case, we had one view on the parking facilities and the contractors had another, he said. Now, we must determine what is absolutely necessary and what can be eliminated."
He went on and assured the public that the Shania Twain Centre WILL be constructed but some things such as storage pace, the parking(first thought to have 100 spaces might have to cut down to 60) and other auxiliary itmes will be reviewed in their effort to take the $1.6 million out of the project.

No Tour Til 2002?
10/23/2000 - Shania has clearly stated that she plans to tour again after the release of her next album which was projected to be released in 2001 leaving us to assume that she'll hit the road again in 2001. Now we've got word that a reliable source tells CountryNow.com that Shania isn't planning to tour until 2002. This probably means that her next album won't be ready until late 2001 or early 2002 but it's still to early to tell. Stay tuned.

Tribute Album Released
10/25/2000 - A new Shania Twain Tribute album was released yesterday which includes 13 of Shania's songs all covered by other country artists. The album, "Tribute to Shania Twain" is available at Amazon.com now.

Shania Aiming for Pre-March 2001 Release
10/30/2000 - According to country web site Twang This, plans are in motion for Shania's next album to be released before March 2001. It's also pointed out that Mercury Nashville sources say it's best to expect a release later in the year.
Shania and husband Mutt Lange have been working on the new album at the home in Switzerland the last few months. Any plans for the album have been kept secret leaving Shania fans to only imagine what might be coming next from Shania. If her last two albums are any indication of what might be coming, her next album will be something special! Stay tuned for more!
