American Music Awards
12/06/99 - The nominations for the 27th annual American Music Awards were announced earlier today and Shania along with Whitney Houston and Britney Spears led all nominations with three nominations each. Shania is up for Favorite Female Rock/Pop Artist, Favorite Female Country Artist and Favorite Adult Contemporary Artist. The awards will be presented live January 17 on ABC!
DVD Update
12/09/99 - Shania Twain Live which was released Tuesday on DVD includes everything that's on the VHS copy but it does not have any extra features or footage. Another thing to keep an eye on, Amazon.com has posted another DVD title from Shania titled "Live(Visual)." No word yet what exactly the DVD is so stay tuned, we'll keep you informed.
Update: (12/28) The "Live(Visual)" DVD previously listed on Amazon.com looks to be an import version of the "Shania Twain Live" DVD. Amazon removed the listing as the DVD was scheduled to be released.
Awards Results
12/09/99 - Shania had a very quiet night last night at the Billboard Music Awards as she didn't win any awards for the 3 she was nominated for. She wasn't scheduled to perform and she wasn't even shown on the live telecast so it was a slow night for Shania fans. The Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears ruled the night in Las Vegas as they both took home 4 awards each.
Twain Tops Country Tour Scene
12/12/99 - This past year Shania's 64-date tour was the top grossing tour in country music with 36.6 million made during 1999 according to Amusement Business magazine. Shania's extra dates added in late November and early December helped her tour top the George Strait Country Music Festival by just 4 million for the year.
Million Sold in Australia
12/12/99 - Shania's multi-platinum album "Come On Over" has now sold over a million copies in Australia! "Come On Over" is one of only a dozen other albums to ever hit one million copies sold in Australia and has also had the longest stay in the Top 10 since the AIRA began keeping charts in 1983.
VH-1 Vote
12/12/99 - As you may have seen on VH-1 this past weekend, Shania is up for VH-1's Artist of the Year this year and fans can vote online for who they think deserves it most. She's up against 11 other artists but who are we kidding here, it's a no brainer, Vote Shania!
Lucky Number... 8?
12/17/99 - Flashback a year ago this week and Shania's album Come On Over was at number 8 on the Billboard 200 charts. Where is she at now? You guessed it, number 8! 234,000 copies of the album were sold just last week pushing it up two spots on the chart to number 8. She's en fuego!
16!
12/17/99 - Quickly on her way to the top selling album by a female artist, Shania's Come On Over album has now reached 16 million in sales. This puts it right up there with Alanis Morissette's top selling female album "Jagged Little Pill", both 16xPlatinum. How much farther will it go?
Country's Top Draw
12/22/99 - When looking back at this year Billboard called Shania country's "strongest new headliner in 10 years." They came to that assumption looking at the phenomenal success of her tour which grossed 36.5 million in '99. Each tour stop this year averaged $571,410 and the total for her whole two-year tour was 63.6 million. Not bad for her first ever tour!
Mercury's Thank You
12/24/99 - In the year-end issue of Billboard magazine Shania's recording label Mercury Nashville, gave thanks to Shania and the success of her "Come On Over" album with a full two-page spread(pictured to the right). The album has sold over 25 million worldwide and 16 here in the US and shows no signs of slowing down with over 300,000 copies sold just last week. Click the images to the right for the full size.
Shania Rules the UK
12/29/99 - This last week of 1999 Shania's album "Come On Over" is still at number 1 on the UK Album chart and will shortly be crowned Britian's top selling album for 1999! Shania-mania is unstoppable!
