Centre Celebrates Shania's Birthday
08/31/2001 - Heavy rain couldn't dampen spirits at the Shania Twain Centre last Tuesday for the Centre's celebration of Shania's birthday. Over 300 visitors showed up to celebrate Shania's 36th birthday, taking part in the festivities which included a videotaped singing of "Happy Birthday" (to be sent to Shania in Switzerland), signing messages to Shania on a birthday scroll card and enjoying a Shania Twain Centre logo birthday cake.
"Considering its pouring rain, we're not doing too badly, on attendance," said Will Saari, tourism and attractions manager for the city. The South Porcupine Food Bank also did well in donations of food and cash, in lieu of birthday gifts from visitors.
"There are activities around the world celebrating Ms. Twain's birthday," said Timmins Mayor Jamie Lim at the party. "We've had people calling, sending e-mails the messages are amazing reading from around the world, wishing her well on her birthday."

Letter From Shania
07/18/2001 - Although it's arrival was a couple weeks late, the Shania Twain Centre received a letter from Shania in which she expressed her disapointment for not being able to attend the opening and her anticipation for the day when she will be able to visit the Centre. Below is the letter from Shania:
June 30, 2001
Hello everyone in Timmins, special guests and visitors. I hope that all of you are having a great day and that those of you visiting my hometown for the first time are enjoying the friendly hospitality and warmth of the Timmins people.
I am incredibly honored that the new Centre bears my name, and was really looking forward to being here for the Grand Opening. I am very disappointed that that cannot be the case but as you all know, Mutt and I are expecting our first child and I'm unable to make the journey back to Timmins this late in my pregnancy. However, as soon as my schedule permits I'll be in Timmins to share in the excitement that has been created by the new Centre.
It has been my pleasure to provide the Shania Twain Centre with memorabilia from the memories and accomplishments I've experienced throughout my career so far so that they can be shared with fans throughout the world. I am pleased that the new Centre will allow people of all ages to share in the cultural diversity of my hometown and also get hands-on information about the music industry.
I'd also like to say to everyone in my hometown of Timmins that I truly look forward to the day when I can visit the new Centre myself so I can personally appreciate the hard work put in to its creation. Again, I am so disappointed that I'm not there to experience this day with all of you and I will be waiting with great anticipation to make my first visit.
In the mean time, we are busy creating new music for the next CD and I'm happy to say it is coming along very well. I have much to look forward to in the near future with a new baby, a new CD and my first visit to the Shania Twain Centre. Sharing these things with all of you will make them even more special.
Have a wonderful time, enjoy the Centre, and see you soon!

Shania Twain Centre Opens
07/02/2001 - Despite rumours swirling around Timmins, Shania Twain didn't make it to the opening of the city's newest tourist attraction Saturday(6/30) but throngs of fans from across North America did. A cardboard cutout stood in for Twain at the opening ceremony of a multi-million-dollar museum dedicated to her sensational career and everyone took things in stride.
Shania wishes very much she could have been with us today, Mayor Jamie Lim said of Twain, who now lives in Switzerland and is expecting her first child this summer.
"I know in her heart shes with us and in our hearts were with her also."
Among the crowd of about 500 at the official opening ceremonies were far-flung members of an Internet Twain fan club that was meeting in person for the first time, some flying in from Europe and the U.S.
I've been planning this trip for months, said 46-year-old John Kime, who travelled from Rotherham, England to meet fellow cyber fans for the opening. Its something Ive been thinking of for a couple of years, to see where (Shania) grew up, got her start and get some of the famous Timmins hospitality.
Many of the fans who pressed through the doors of the museum gushed over what they saw as the opening was a success!
