Fans Trek Gets Coverage
08/30/2000 - Our friends over at the Shania Twain US Online Fan Club received a little pub on the Timmins Press Web Site earlier today with their plans to travel to Timmins when the Shania Twain Interpretive Centre opens next summer. The article pointed out that a number of groups plan to make the trip to Timmins when the Interpretive Centre opens which is estimated to draw over 55,000 visitors each year and $7.2 million in additional tourism.
"I have had some contact with groups from New Jersey and North Carolina" says City of Timmins tourism co-ordintator Will Saari. Most correspondence he receives from groups comes by e-mail. One of the biggest groups planning to make the trip together is from the unofficial fan club with a group of 50.
The members of the fan club over at the Shania Twain US Online Fan Club are spread throughout the United States and Canada with different backgrounds and age groups. The 50 members who want to attend the opening of the centre have several reasons to look forward to the trip, says fan club member Christopher Backa.
"We have been discussing a trip to Timmins when the Centre opens so we can meet in person and hopefully tell Shania how much we love her music", he said.
