Moving The Shania Centre?
11/17/2000 - According to the Timmins Daily Press, the local Timmins Newspaper, talk in the town has been about possibly moving the Shania Twain Interpretive Centre to another town close by. Although construction on the Centre has already begun in Timmins at the site of the Timmins Gold Mine questions have brought up about it's location. Some feel it should be built in Schumacher which is only a few miles from Timmins.
If they were to build the Centre in another location the construction would be delayed because all the plans would have to be re-adjusted to suit the new location and they would have to re-apply for funding to help pay for the centre.
But it looks as though the talk of moving the centre will not come to pass as several consultants concurred (the Gold Mine Tour) was the best spot for the Centre.
Ken Petersen, chair of the Timmins Economic Development Corporation said "the Gold Mine Tour was the choice for several reasons. It was chosen because maintenance staff, retail space, food service and road access could be shared between the attractions.
Hopefully the talk of moving the centre will remain just that, talk.
