Centre Staying Put
11/23/2000 - Even with the signatures of 1,000 petitioners the Shania Twain Interpretive Centre is to stay where it is and the request to stop construction on the Centre was refused. A large number of residents wanted to move the site of the Centre to another site but Timmins Mayor Vic Power responded by saying to move the site now would cost the city a large sum of money estimated at $2 million. Power also said that if a change in location for the Centre was made, funding from government grants, which took more than two years of negotiations, could be lost.

Public meeting for the Centre's construction were held since December 1997 and there were never any objections to the Centre's location at the site of the Timmins Gold Mine Tour. It looks like this was just a bump in the road in the building of the Shania Twain Interpretive Centre but the centre still plans to open it's doors July 1 2001!
