Timmins Preparing for 'Shania Time'
02/21/2001 - The Timmins Economic Development Corporation is beckoning tourists to come on over and see more than the Shania Twain Centre this summer. The summer readiness committee, a sub-committee of the TEDC, is creating a comprehensive tourism information package for visitors coming to Timmins for the opening of the centre.
Dubbed Shania Time by organizers, the campaign was unveiled Tuesday morning at the Timmins Chamber of Commerce. Keitha Robson-Morrell, spokeswoman for the project, said the purpose is to show visitors what there is to see and do in Timmins.
The Shania Twain Centre will bring the tourists to the city, but other attractions are needed to keep them in town for a few days. "We want to let people know about the events they can come and see," Robson-Morrell said. "There will be a lot of international visitors. Were trying to get them to stay (in Timmins) a few extra days."
Once information is gathered from Timmins residents and businesses, the events will be put into a calendar and distributed to hotels and other organizations. The city of Timmins wants to put their best foot foward and show the world they're a first class city!
Get ready Timmins, we're comin'!
