Strong Ticket Sales on the First Day
05/24/2001 - The phone was ringing off the hook Tuesday, ringing from those who wanted a chance to visit the Shania Centre first. About 100 people bought 350 tickets to the Centre, which is set to open its doors June 30.

The City of Timmins tourism and attractions manager Will Saari said the calls have been coming in non-stop. He had not anticipated a major rush for tickets since it had been well advertised the 3,750 tickets available would be on sale for two weeks.

Tour tickets for the June 30 to July 2 weekend are being sold on a timed basis. We're following the format of timed tours over a three day period, Saari said. We realize that this attraction has been given international fame and recognition and we want to give everyone ample opportunity to visit the centre on opening weekend.

The tours will start June 30 at 12:30 p.m. and continue at intervals of 1 1/2 hours.

Saari said the format of the tours will benefit visitors coming to the site. "They will know before hand that they will have a ticket for a predetermined time, they wont have to stand in line, they wont have to fight the crowds to get into the centre," Saari added.
